Washi Tape Easter Eggs

With Easter being early this year it has kind of snuck up on me.  So, with just a few days to spare, I thought I would show you how to make some quick and easy Easter egg decorations.

What you will need:

Paper mache eggs
Washi tape
Mod Podge

(I got all of these great new washi tapes from Pick Your Plum!)

I covered each egg with washi tape and then applied a thin layer of Mod Podge with a small brush. Sorry there are no pictures of this process to show you, but it was so simple I didn't even think to take any.  I did take lots of pictures of the results though!

It is starting to feel a little more like Easter around here.  If only the weather would cooperate!

What kind of Easter eggs are you making this year?

St. Patrick's Day Paint Chip Garland

First, I told you that Emerald was the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year. Then, I showed you how I used that color in my house when I painted my stair risers. Now, I'm going to show you what I did with all of those leftover green paint chips that were lying around..........

Here is what I used:

Paint chips

Craft punch

Sewing floss

Hot glue gun

I cut out clover shapes from the paint chips using a craft punch.

Then, I hot glued the paint chip clovers to the sewing floss.

Ta da!  It doesn't get much easier than that!

Here is the garland hanging on my mantle.

Have you ever used paint chips for something other than picking out the perfect color?

St. Patrick's Day Washi Tape Shamrocks

There is always that thought that if you can make it through February then spring is just around the corner.  Well, February (and the cold it brought with it) is out the door and I am welcoming in March......specifically St. Patrick's Day!  What better way to bring a little color to this drab winter than with some cute washi tape shamrocks.

Supplies

Washi tape
Cardstock
Shamrock pattern (I used a cookie cutter)
Scissors
Pipe cleaners and hot glue gun (optional)

Cover your cardstock in washi tape.
The pattern on this tape did not line up exactly, but it wasn't a big deal.

Trace your shamrock pattern onto the cardstock.
I used a cookie cutter as my template and traced onto the back of the cardstock
because I didn't want any pen markings on the front/washi tape side.

Cut out your shamrocks.

I hot glued a green pipe cleaner to the back of each shamrock to give it a base.

That's it!  They were so easy!

I absolutely love the way they turned out!

What are you using washi tape for?

Ombre Valentine's Day Trees

I hope Cupid's Arrow got you into the Valentine's Day spirit!  I know it is still a few weeks away, but the stores already have their St. Patrick's Day and Easter stuff out!  I like to take one holiday at a time, so I am back today with another fun Valentine's Day idea.
 Supply List:

Floral cones

Cardstock

Hot glue gun

Heart punch (optional)

First, I used a heart punch to cut the hearts out of the cardstock.  I try to work smarter, not harder.  You could trace hearts onto the cardstock using a template and then cut them out by hand, but this would definitely be the harder way.  I got the heart punch from Michaels for about $6 after using my 40% off coupon.  It was worth every penny!  The cardstock came from the dollar section of Target.
Then hot glue the hearts (pointed side up) around the floral cone starting at the bottom with the darkest color.  The hearts should overlap slightly to make sure none of the floral cone is showing through.
Continue gluing the hearts around the floral cone from bottom to top, using the darkest color on the bottom and the lightest color on the top (this is called ombre).  The number of rows of each color will depend on the size of the floral cone and the number of colors.  I chose to make all of my color sections appear about equal in size.  Another option would be to have the darkest color on the bottom be the largest section and decrease the size of each section with each color going up.
I think they are the perfect little addition to my Valentine's Day mantle.  What do you think?

Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

Love-struck: Valentine's Day Cupid's Arrow

Valentine's Day is less than one month away and love is in the air! (If you consider 30 degrees temps and sleet love, because that is what is in the air here.)  So to warm your heart I thought I would show you a fun and easy Valentine's Day craft.

Supply List:

Dowel rods

Feathers

Washi tape

Red Felt

Hot Glue Gun

First, I glued feathers to one end of each dowel rod.

Next, I wrapped each dowel rod with this cute little red chevron washi tape.

Finally, I cut hearts out of red felt and glued one heart to each side of the other end of the dowel rod.

I think they are super cute and they look perfect in our monogrammed glass vase on the mantle.

I'll be back tomorrow to show you another part of my Valentine's Day mantle.

Have you been love-struck by Cupid's arrow?
