Oscars: Red Carpet Recap

In case you somehow missed it, the Oscars were last night and they did not disappoint.......well maybe they did.

I thought most of the women and their gowns looked beautiful, but no one woman blew me away. Here are some of the women I liked the most......

Jennifer Aniston - Honestly, I think this girl would look just as fabulous in a brown paper bag. I loved that her hair and dress were just beautifully simple. The train on this dress looked gorgeous on stage too when she was presenting.

Jennifer Lawrence - Her hair and makeup looked beautiful and she looked elegant as always. The dress was a little full and probably why the poor girl fell going up the stairs to accept her award. Congrats to the Kentucky girl for winning Best Actress!

Naomi Watts - I loved design of this dress. I'm even okay with the color, but I would have rather seen it in another fabric. She looked great though.

Charlize Theron - When you can wear this haircut and still look stunning it doesn't really matter what your dress looks like. She picked a good one though......I love the white and the strapless, V cut top.

Jennifer Garner - I like this color on her and the hair, makeup and jewelry are on point. This dress looks really pretty from the front, but is a little too big in the back.

Reese Witherspoon - I love this girl and her movies. She is rockin' the right color blue.

This is where is got a little disappointing.........

Jennifer Stewart - I've already told you about a similar dress here that I didn't like, so let's move on up. This is what my hair looks like when I get out of bed in the morning!  Where is her stylist? Or even a friend to just tell her this is wrong?!

Nicole Kidman - I just don't like it. I don't like the full sequin, the design in the middle or the design on the bottom.

Kristin Chenoweth - I think this dress would have looked better with a more tapered, straight line bottom and no mesh on top.

The most disappointing part of the whole night was probably the host Seth MacFarlane. I was not impressed, but maybe I just have a different sense of humor. Hopefully he is not invited back.

Grammy Dress Code a No Go

Has that long ago, but not forgotten, wardrobe malfunction forever changed the world of fashion?  I'm sure that wasn't the first mishap and it hasn't been the last because with each new awards season comes a fresh showing of beautiful skin under those gorgeous gowns.  Somehow, even in those barely there styles, those ladies still look stunning.  If you've got it flaunt it, right?

So, I was a little surprised last week when the Grammys announced a skin smackdown......

"Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible 'puffy' bare skin exposure."

What that was supposed to mean is no more of this.....

But what did it really mean for last night's Grammy awards?  Nothing!  I don't think superstars follow guidelines.  If anything thing, they probably just rebel against them.  And any girl will tell you that a few days notice to find a new dress isn't enough time (unless maybe your rich, famous, and have a personal stylist).  In case you missed it, here is a Red Carpet Recap......

With the exception of a few great dresses and a few great performances, I thought the whole thing was just okay.  Nothing spectacular......except for Justin Timberlake's comeback!!

Pintastic Mint Jeans

Do you get an email when someone repins something from one of your Pinterest boards?  I do and I love it!  Why?  I love knowing that someone else likes the same things I do.  Plus, it makes me think that maybe I'm not too far out in left field if people are repining from my boards.

In the last few weeks I've noticed that a lot of those emails are about a mint jeans pin on my "Do I have this in my closet?" board.  So, I went back to my board to check out which pin it was.  Little did I know I would find not one, but four pins about mint jeans.

Now, these aren't just random pins from an overactive pinner finger.  I really love these mint jeans!  In fact, I own this pair from Loft.......

Color Pop Super Skinny Jeans

They are the perfect color and super comfy!  I have worn them with both royal blue and black tops and I am planning for the navy blazer and a gray sweater like the pictures above.

I actually own several pair of colored skinny jeans.  They are a perfect way of adding color to your wardrobe and enjoying the comfort of wearing jeans without looking like it.  They key is to look past their color and just treat them like jeans when putting together new outfits.  Think of all of the tops you would wear with your favorite dark rinse jeans.  More than likely, all of those same tops would look great with a little color on the bottom.  Add your favorite flats, boots or wedges and a great piece of jewelry and you are ready to go!  The only thing I don't see working with colored jeans (that might normally work with regular denim jeans) is tennis/athletic shoes.  Maybe Pinterest will prove me wrong.

What She Wore: Golden Globe Red Carpet 2013

In case you missed it, the annual awards season has begun.  I love a good party.  It is a few good hours of cheap entertainment on a usually otherwise boring TV night.   Last night's Golden Globe Awards were no exception.  The hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were amazingly funny and turned a stuffy business dinner into a glammed up episode of Saturday Night Live.  Let's be honest though, most of us don't really care about who won Best Actress or what flick brought home Best Film.  All we really care about is what she wore.  So much so that most of us pre-party on another channel watching hours of red carpet coverage.  Well today the post-party is On Manor Drive as I share with you the good, the bad and the ugly of last night's red carpet.

Let's start with the bad and the ugly.  It is kind of like ripping off a band aid.  The faster we get this over with the less it's going to hurt (maybe).

Do you see a trend?  Lace, Sheer and Nude.  I am not a fan.

 

Mayim Bialik - This is a nice sparkly, winter wonderland kind of dress, but I don't like the sheer sleeves and neckline.  I think this dress would have looked better strapless or with spaghetti straps.

 

Jennifer Lopez - She looks beautiful as always, but I just don't think this dress is doing it.  I think this dress would have looked better in a fabulous jewel tone.

 

Kerry Washington - This awkward photo doesn't do her any favors, but neither does the dress.  I think this dress would look better short; cut off where the nude layer underneath stops.  However, short is not really accepted on the red carpet.  So, in this case, it might look better without the paneling behind the legs, just sheer and sparkly from the mid-thigh down.

Jessica Alba - Hands down my most favorite of the night.  This dress is absolutely gorgeous and she looks amazing.  I also think this dress would be great for a wedding dress (in the right color of course).  Oh, and that necklace she is wearing......it can be yours too for $5.8 million.

 

Jennifer Lawrence - This KY girl rocked the red and looked beautiful even while suffering from the flu.

 

Rosario Dawson - What I love most about this dress is the perfect pastel blue color.  And the peplum.  And the little cap-like sleeves.  Pastels are trending for spring.

 

Katharine McPhee - I love a black dress.  The neckline and fabric texture detail add an extra little something to an otherwise classic look.

 

 

There were definitely some winners last night, but overall everyone looked kind of drab.  Let's face it, maroons and pasty, winter white skin doesn't look very good on anyone.  What do you think?  Who was your favorite?
